China and Vietnam reached a strategic understanding.
On Tuesday, China and Vietnam reached a strategic understanding to establish a community with a common destiny, paving the way for future increased friendship and cooperation.
There has been a long-standing and solid partnership between the two Asian neighbors. China was the first nation to establish diplomatic connections with Vietnam in 1950, not long after it was founded. China and Vietnam established a comprehensive strategic cooperation relationship in 2008. China was the first nation to do so.
Vietnam and China have made significant strides in a number of areas over the past 15 years, providing a solid foundation for both countries to advance their bilateral relations to new heights, according to Dao Ngoc Bau. Xi Jinping, the president of China and general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, made the remark during his just ended state visit to Vietnam.
Since taking office as Chinese president and general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, Xi has made three trips to Vietnam.
Nguyen Hoang Anh, a member of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee, described Xi's visit as historic and stated that "high-level contact is a good tradition between Vietnam and China and promotes the continuous development of bilateral ties."
Citing the well-known words of the late Vietnamese leader Ho Chi Minh, who described the relationship between China and Vietnam as one of "camaraderie plus brotherhood," Xi stated on Tuesday during his meeting with Nguyen Phu, the general secretary of the CPV Central Committee. "Over the 70-plus years of diplomatic ties, traditional friendship has witnessed continuous development," Anh stated. Such cordial interactions "have strongly boosted communication and cooperation in the fields of trade, investment, culture, tourism and education in recent years."
"The two countries have become one of the most popular tourist destinations for each other," he stated.
The two nations' commercial and economic ties have grown closer ever since they inked a memorandum of understanding in 2017 to collaborate on the Belt and Road initiative. Vietnam's major trading partner in ASEAN and the fourth largest worldwide has always been China, with Vietnam being its largest trading partner overall. Bilateral commerce between the two countries was valued at 234.92 billion USD in 2022 and is predicted to reach a record high. "The visit will contribute to further strengthening the alignment between the development projects, strategies, and initiatives between the two countries," senior professor Joseph Matthews of BELTEI International University in Phnom Penh stated.
According to Thong Mengdavid, a research supervisor at the Asian Vision Institute, an independent think tank located in Phnom Penh, China has consistently utilized international initiatives to distribute the benefits of its peaceful growth to Vietnam and other nearby nations.
He stated that China's ties with its neighbors are at the vanguard of efforts to create a contemporary, high-quality community with a common destiny for humanity, as evidenced by the Global Development Initiative and the Global Security Initiative. With the combined efforts of both parties, Xi expressed his belief that the relationship between China and Vietnam will enter a new phase marked by increased political mutual trust, more substantive security cooperation, deeper mutually beneficial cooperation, a more stable popular foundation, closer multilateral coordination and collaboration, and more appropriate dispute resolution.
Trong visited the Friendship Pass, a cross-border port, in August and planted a "friendship tree."
Observing that the pass is the only international crossing point called "friendship," Trong stated at the time that it represents the unique historical relationship between the Chinese and Vietnamese people, which is one of brothers and comrades. He said that Vietnam is prepared to collaborate with China to create a community with a shared future that has strategic importance. Vietnam will also strengthen its political, economic, trade, security, and people-to-people ties with China in order to create a model of mutually beneficial cooperation.
